Tinkering and trying to understand how stuff works?

I have always liked tinkering physical things. Some of my earliest memories have to do with opening up stuff (all I needed was a screw-driver), looking at what was inside, and seeing how it worked. I also recollect my mother asking me to check why this-and-that was not working .

As I grew up, the desire to know what was under the hood grew. Besides the mechanical stuff it now included electrical/electronics stuff. I continue to do minor maintenance works (plumbing, electrical, mobile, etc.) that are required at the house, and mom still asks me to check things out.

Looking back, it seems quite natural that I pursued my undergraduate and graduate studies in mechanical, electrical/electronics, computer and software related disciplines.

Now, I wonder what made me open the stuff up and see what was inside when I was young? where did the curiosity to see what was under the hood, how to fix and make things come from?

I still haven’t changed much, that curiosity is still present and has grown. Most of my interests these days are fueled by popular science books and the internet/WWW. I hope to write more about those in my subsequent stories.

Are you able to relate to the above? It would be great to know your story too!
